K-Beauty Solutions for Chicken Skin
If you've ever dealt with chicken skin - unsightly, rough bumps that sometimes appear on your arms, thighs and bum - you'll know how frustrating it can be. The good news is that there's a quick and easy way to tackle it, and K-Beauty has just the solution.
First things first - what exactly is chicken skin and why does it occur?
WHAT IS CHICKEN SKIN?
Chicken skin (real name: Keratosis pilaris or KP) is a skin condition caused by a build-up of excess oil plugs (or keratin) within your hair follicles. This causes small, often red-ish, bumps to appear on your skin.
While they may leave you feeling self conscious, the good news is that with the right tricks up your sleeve they can be a thing of the past.
Here are our favourite K-Beauty solutions to get rid of them.
K-BEAUTY SOLUTIONS FOR CHICKEN SKIN: The Scrub
When it comes to removing Keratosis pilaris, scrubs are an essential part of a good skincare routine. That's because they can help to gently remove dead skin, which in turns helps to unclog pores, reduce bumps and improve your skin's texture. Unlike coffee scrubs, which tend to be very rough and abrasive, sugar scrubs are an ideal way to treat your skin. Sugar melts when it comes into contact with water, meaning it offers a customizable cleanse. Best of all, I doesn't harm the environment in the same way as old school scrubs with microbeads.
Make sure you skip out on scrubs that are highly fragranced or full of essential oils because these can aggravate your skin. Worse - they can also trigger skin conditions like dermatitis.
Jelly Ko's Cinnamon Toast Sugar Scrub Foam is an ideal K-Beauty product to assist with chicken skin. Not only does it contain ultra-small white sugar crystals that won't damage your skin, it also contains natural cinnamon rather than artificial fragrances.
Apply a small amount to damp skin wherever you experience chicken skin and gently massage it into the affected areas. After a few minutes, rinse off and dry your skin.
For best results, try this 2-3 times a week.
For even more intense results, apply the scrub to dry skin instead of damp skin.
K-BEAUTY SOLUTIONS FOR CHICKEN SKIN: The Body Lotion
It might seem counterintuitive to apply moisturiser or body lotion when you're dealing with clogged skin. But if K-Beauty has taught us one thing, it's the importance of hydration, even for issues like chicken skin. That's because when skin is left to dry out, the body overcompensates by producing more oil. This overproduction of oil can lead to further clogged pores and - you guessed it! - more chicken skin.
After scrubbing your body, make sure you apply a moisturising lotion to your body. Something like SOME BY MI's Real Cica 92% is ideal, as it is lightweight and won't weigh the skin down.
